Toyota Confirms the Arrival of Its New V8

The first thing that comes to mind when talking about Toyota engines is usually a small hybrid car powered by a 4-cylinder engine. Needless to say, that’s a far cry from what we’re discussing today — a brand-new V8 engine from Toyota.

Indeed, Toyota has just announced the imminent arrival of a new 8-cylinder powerplant. And the good news doesn’t stop there: this engine will feature twin turbochargers and hybrid assistance — the kind of setup you’d typically expect from brands like Ferrari or Lamborghini.

A V8 Prius?

The next logical question is: which vehicle will get this new V8? Of course, it won’t be a Prius or a Corolla. This engine is clearly destined for a model designed to deliver serious performance. The most likely candidate is the new exotic sports car from Lexus, Toyota’s luxury division, which has been under development for some time.

However, some rumors suggest that Toyota’s new V8 could also find its way under the hood of the Land Cruiser, a model that’s been gaining huge popularity since the debut of its latest generation. Who knows — Toyota might even be preparing a high-performance Tundra, something in the spirit of the Ford Raptor or Ram TRX. In short, the possibilities are wide open, and this new engine certainly sparks the imagination.

Before wrapping up, it’s important to remember that most of this information is still speculative, with the exception of the new Lexus sports car, whose V8 soundtrack has already been captured in spy videos. Also worth noting, Toyota isn’t only working on a new V8 — several new gasoline engines are currently in development across its lineup.
